OREGON COAST PARKS

Ecola State Park: Located at the north end of Cannon Beach, a scenic two-mile drive through Sitka spruce and hemlock trees leads you to one of the most stunning viewpoints on the Oregon coast. The park offers panoramic views of the coastline and features hiking trails, picnic areas, and wildlife viewing opportunities. A $3.00 day-use fee applies year-round. Note: Tour buses and RVs are not recommended due to the narrow, winding road.

Fort Stevens State Park: Once a key military installation, Fort Stevens is now a popular camping destination. The park offers tent and trailer sites, beachcombing, a freshwater lake for swimming, hiking and biking trails, and wildlife viewing. Visitors can also explore a historic shipwreck and military site. With nine miles of bike trails and six miles of hiking trails winding through forests, wetlands, and dunes, Fort Stevens is a haven for nature lovers and history buffs.

Nehalem Bay State Park: Wake up to the sound of seagulls and spend your day kayaking around Nehalem Bay, followed by a short walk over the dunes to the beach. As the sun sets behind Neah-Kah-Nie Mountain, enjoy the tranquil beauty of the Oregon coast before falling asleep to the soothing sounds of ocean waves. Nehalem Bay State Park is an ideal spot for a peaceful coastal retreat.

Oswald West State Park: Located 10 miles south of Cannon Beach, Oswald West is known for its popular Short Sands Beach. To access the beach, visitors must park in one of two lots and enjoy a scenic 3/4-mile walk through lush forest. This beach is a favorite among surfers and beachgoers alike, offering a secluded coastal experience.

Saddle Mountain State Natural Area: A challenging but rewarding 2.5-mile hike takes you from the parking lot (elevation 1,650 feet) to the summit of Saddle Mountain (elevation 3,283 feet). The trail offers diverse landscapes, from dense forest to open meadows filled with wildflowers, culminating in an awe-inspiring view from the summit. It’s a must-do for those seeking a true Oregon wilderness adventure.

Sunset Beach State Recreation Site: Sunset Beach marks the western trailhead of the historic Fort-to-Sea Trail, a 6.5-mile route that retraces the journey of Lewis and Clark’s Corps of Discovery during the winter of 1805-6. Visitors can enjoy expansive views of the Pacific Ocean, from Cape Disappointment to the north to Ecola State Park to the south, with direct access to the beach.

Cannon Beach City Park: Located in the heart of Cannon Beach, this community park offers beach access, tennis courts, playgrounds, a boat ramp, picnic areas, and barbecues. It’s a perfect spot for families and visitors to enjoy a relaxing day outdoors on the Oregon coast.
