Keep reading to learn more about this popular adventure.

Oregon Breweries on the Craft Beer Trail

The North Coast Craft Beer Trail is a 29-mile trail that stops at 12 Oregon breweries. To participate, you first need to get your passport. You can either get a physical pass at one of the breweries or download the mobile pass. If you have a physical passport, you will need to get it initialed by a participating brewery staff member. If you visit 10 participating breweries within a year, you can return your passport to receive your small gift.

Before setting off, be sure to designate a driver so your trip remains fun, yet safe.

Cannon Beach Breweries

Cannon Beach is home to two stops. The Pelican Brewing Company at Cannon Beach is known for its incredible beer and delicious pizza. The tap list features a bit of everything, including lagers, ales, IPAs, and more.

The second spot is Public Coast Brewing Company, which works to make craft beer that’s approachable and delicious. Their creations often use seasonal ingredients grown at the Public Coast Farm.

Other Spots to Visit

In addition to the two fantastic options in Cannon Beach, the trail spotlights 10 other breweries. Grab a drink at Fort George Brewery, the last brewery in Astoria, or choose from the over 300 beers or wines offered at The Wine and Beer Haus in Seaside.

  4. Once an ice skating rink and silent movie theater, the Coaster Theatre is still a go-to place for entertainment. Transformed into a theater in 1972, this theater puts on two musicals and five plays a year. Check the box office to see what shows are taking place during your visit.
  5. Venture to Tillamook Head, about 15 minutes from the resort, to see if you can spot Tillamook Rock Lighthouse. The deactivated lighthouse was first lit in 1881 after years of work and delays due to storms and harsh weather.

Discover The Goonies Filming Locations in Cannon Beach & Astoria

Locations in The Goonies movie are located throughout Cannon Beach and Astoria.

Whether your upcoming Cannon Beach getaway is your first or fifth time visiting this Oregon town, there is always something new to discover. Situated just south of downtown, Tolovana Inn is not only a relaxing place to call home, but it puts you near the top activities and attractions. Some of these spots might be familiar for movie fans. A fun and unique way to explore the sights of Cannon Beach and the surrounding area is by mapping out a self-guided tour of The Goonies filming locations, starting in nearby Astoria.

A Guide to Creating a Self-Guided Filming Tour

Released in 1985, The Goonies follows a group of kids who find an ancient map and the adventures on their journey to find the long-lost treasure. A majority of the filming took place in Astoria and Cannon Beach, which means you can see these classic movie locations in real life.

We recommend starting your tour by making the 40-minute drive to Astoria then working your way back to our Cannon Beach hotel.

  • One of the most well-known attractions is Mikey’s house. This spot is a private residence, so be respectful of the owners’ wishes when visiting and do not drive up the driveway. There is no street parking near the house, so you’ll need to park a few blocks away and walk to get your photo.
  • Another popular attraction is the County Jail on Duane Street. Today, the old jail is the Oregon Film Museum and showcases television and films produced or filmed in Oregon.
  • Go on a self-guided tour of the Flavel House Museum, where Mikey’s dad worked as a curator, and the kids biked past in on their treasure hunt.
  • Several scenes featuring the Oregon coast were filmed at Ecola State Park. This park is where the movie’s villains had their hideout and the start of the kids’ treasure hunt. The actual hideout was built for the film and then taken down, but you can see a small building where the hideout once stood.
  • One of the most recognizable attractions in Cannon Beach also makes an appearance in the movie. The kids use Haystack Rock to navigate the map, and a trip to Cannon Beach isn’t complete without stopping by to get a photo of this well-known landmark.
