Tips for Visiting Cannon Beach in the Summer

Sunny summer in Cannon Beach

Summer is the most popular season to visit Cannon Beach, Oregon.

With many guests locked down since spring, this unique resort town is attracting visitors eager for a change of scenery.   Oregon’s stunning natural shoreline and wide-open beaches are more inviting than ever.

Besides the natural beauty of the stunning Oregon coastline, the charming village of Cannon Beach invites guests to explore its flower-lined walkways.   There, you can savor the culinary bounty of the Pacific Northwest, shop unique boutiques and shops and explore the galleries of one of America’s outstanding art towns.

Here are some tips to make the most out of your summer visit to Cannon Beach.

Make hotel reservations in advance

During the busiest weeks of the year, beloved Tolovana Inn is frequently sold out.  If you’re planning on staying, make sure you have reservations well in advance of your visit. Besides being located oceanfront, the bonus of staying at Tolovana Inn is that you’ll have easy parking. (EV and Tesla recharging stations, too.) Cannon Beach is extremely walkable.  You can stroll along the sand into town and admire the colorful, summer blooms complimenting many of the unique oceanfront homes.

Getting Around:   Drive Early, Walk or Shuttle

Candidly, in summer, mid-day traffic in Cannon Beach can slow to a crawl as day trippers join overnight guests exploring this beautiful seafront village.  If you can, plan to leave your vehicle at the hotel and walk into town.  If walking isn’t an option, drive into town early or utilize the local shuttle. Cost to ride is only $1 and route schedules can be found at: nworegontransit.org  and on a free app.

Less Crowded Beaches: Head South of Tolovana Inn

Exploring iconic Haystack Rock is always a draw.   But, to experience less crowded beaches in the summer, check out areas away from downtown and the Rock.  Beach areas in front of Tolovana Inn and to the south typically have less foot traffic.

Dining: Reservations, eat-in or picnic.

Restaurants can be crowded, so consider dining during off-peak times and be sure you have reservations.  Otherwise, head over to Fresh Foods,  the local market across the street from Tolovana Inn.   It’s an ideal source for everything you need for a memorable picnic dinner.  Or get what you need to prepare meals in your room to enjoy on your private beach front balcony.  Sunsets are a perfect accompaniment to a great meal.

With just a little planning, you can be sure to enjoy every minute of your summer visit to Cannon Beach.
